I think about this a lot in the context of comms. So much of the PR industry is predicated on the idea of these huge launches, but contemporary comms works better if it's always-on and aiming for a precise audience. Tweet, start a newsletter, go on a podcast...the goal isn't to appeal to everyone but to appeal to the audiences who won't churn because they're your true believers.
I think the other way to look at 'anyone can launch an app' / 'apps grow on the back of memes' is that this opens up the doors to a lot of indie devs who can use trends + social media to drive acquisition (free) and revenue up front, then discard the app when the trend cools down without worrying about it being a lifelong phenomenon. How about substantive memes, memes of creators with ownership of the content and storyline? Memes that are everlasting, and never ending? Life Time Value memes. A meme of personal importance, contribution, and emotional content creation. Like a circle meme. A visual storytelling meme. That the creator has a personal life meaning stake in? A meaning meme!!! That's continuous and never-ending. Involve me and I'll understand rather than I'll forget. Highly visual and emotional. And people crave to create such meaningful memes. Then they spread like a virus of goodwill. Because they have value. There is incentive reward to boot. The ultimate network effect.
On the topic of memes, I found this wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meme surprisingly interesting. Memes have a much broader definition than the "internet meme representation" everyone already knows.
That's why I love the idea of "meme/ephemeral apps" that you've been developing over the past few editions: they don't fit the "internet meme" definition, but the broader one for sure.
AI enters the chat… Yeah so, my AI apps reduce CAC like a boss 🌟
But, we all now know most fade fast, so better off finding and growing your North Star core value users can’t live without. Let's not chase the meme but build the dream!
Speed thrills but churn kills.
"We must reimagine what can meme, unburdened by what has memed." - Kamala Harris, probably.

we must all become unburdened

My takeaway: Ultimately, AI is a growth enabler, but not a growth driver
Insightful. After all, retention is everything.

There’s no getting around what high churn means—nobody wants to use your product anymore. Nothing can change that. Not marketing, not CS.

Anyway, just a rant on memes aha
Yes! Richard Dawkins coined it in one of my favorite books
